Title:Henry Dunster Harvard University

Description:In August 1640 when Henry Dunster 1609-1659 arrived in Boston from his native England he could scarcely have imagined that three weeks later he would be asked to serve as Harvard’s first president - much less that he would accept the offer to preside over little more than an institutional idea

As you know, exams begin tomorrow (Dec. 10), so please triple check your exam times and locations in your gcal/diary/journal. Help each other out through this trying time. We will support one another! Selena was reading my Tarot cards yesterday and they showed that there’s a lot of anxiety and worry about exams and final projects (It was specifically, “Nine of Wands” inverted. I’m paraphrasing… but only slightly!) But I know you got this – and I know that all the time and work you’ve put into the Fall will be worth it! We’re cheering you on, so much, that we’ll have our semesterly Diana-home-made cheesecake tomorrow (Dec. 10) in the House Office (E303), at 10am! I hope you can come, take a slight pause, and share words and cake with others. This week is the last one for the mooseletter, so end-of-the-year thanks go to Diana for always making them so beautiful, filled with pictures and care, and informative! Stay strong Meece! Different office hours this week: Tuesday: 10 am-12 noon Thursday: 1-3 pm Friday: 1.30-3.30 pm Honor Council Top Five Tips https://honorcouncil.fas.harvard.edu/honor-councils-top-five-tips Tip # 1 Organization when writing: Careful organization will keep you from inadvertently plagiarizing someone else’s words or ideas. Don’t assume you’ll remember which notes come from which source or which notes are direct quotes vs. paraphrase. Instead, label each source and be sure to keep any direct quotes in your notes in quotation marks. Tip # 2 Read Your Syllabus: Collaboration policies change from course to course. So check the syllabus in each course and read the policy. If you have any questions about appropriate collaboration, be sure to ask your professor and course staff! Tip # 3 Plan Ahead: Managing your time well helps you work with integrity: Less stress + more time to sleep = better decision making! Taking a few minutes now to chart out when your major assignments are coming up will also help you foresee a time crunch and reach out for support in advance. Tip # 4 Use Resources and Ask for Help: Remember to ask for help. Harvard has many resources (see http://bit.ly/HC_Resources). Instructor’s office hours; Your advising network; Academic Resource Center; Writing Center; Library; Math Question Center; Accessible Ed. Office; HUHS Not sure where to start? Ask your Resident Dean. Tip # 5 Have an “Academic Emergency Contact”: Pick someone you trust (ideally a tutor/proctor/resident dean or family member) to contact if you’re ever in a situation where you feel like you have no other choice but to cheat. If you are panicked—contact them. Then take a break. It is ALWAYS better to turn in a partially finished problem set or paper than to copy. Exams If you are likely to be late to an exam, go anyway. If you miss an exam, you should talk to me ASAP. Extensions Professors may grant extensions for papers (at their discretion) up until the end of exam period, so it is important that you finish your written assignments by this time. After that date, ONLY the Administrative Board may grant extensions of time for undergraduates to complete course work. This rule also applies to students who are cross-registered in courses elsewhere. “Incompletes” are NOT allowed for undergraduates (even if your professor says otherwise). Illness During Exams If illness prevents you from taking one of your exams on schedule, you may ask the Administrative Board for permission to take a makeup exam in the spring. To do this, you must be seen by a UHS physician or nurse practitioner within the 24-hour period before the exam. In addition, in some cases examinations can be administered to students who have been admitted to UHS and who feel ready to take their exam within the 24-hour period following the scheduled time. If you are ill as an exam approaches, call me or come see me to talk through the best course of action. Study Spaces Please note that during reading and exam periods, all common spaces will be available 24 hours a day for studying! Tutor On-Call The tutor on-call from December 9 to 16 is Deborah Palmer who in case of an emergency, can be reached at 617-851-8419. HUDS at Dunster Presents Enhanced Brain Breaks!
